Great to see the new Kai Tak Sports Stadium nearing completionš„Ā
Due to open in 2025, the Stadium is part of the Sports Park Precinct in Hong Kong, and features a 7,000sqm canopy over the sports avenue.Ā
Fabritecture HK was engaged to deliver the ETFE system designed by Maffeis Engineering. Having worked with our team on similar large-scale tensile projects, Fabritecture HK appointed Arcus Wire Group to design and manufacture the stainless steel cables to support ETFE cushions of the canopy.Ā
Innovation
The unique nature of the project and the requirement for cables to be installed with no adjustments, necessitated the design and manufacture of bespoke stainless steel swage fork fittings which could be swaged with hammaĀ® X 1×19 stainless steel wire rope.Ā
NEW STAINLESS STEEL FITTINGS DESIGN
With decades of experience in designing bespoke fittings for stainless steel projects worldwide, our team began the process of designing the fittings, utilising 3D printing to provide working prototypes. These enabled our team to review and refine the design prior to commencing full-scale production of 10,000 bespoke swage fork fittings.Ā Ā
PRECISION CABLE MANUFACTUING FOR OVER 5,000 CABLES
A total of 5,324 cables of different lengths were manufactured in November 2022 and shipped to site.Ā Ā
The project required over 17,000 metres of hammaĀ® X 6.0mm 1×19 stainless steel wire rope and over 10,000 custom made hammaĀ® stainless steel swage forks.Ā
With a focus on precision manufacturing, all cables were assembled at our Queensland manufacturing facility to strict tolerance requirements.Ā
RECOGNISING OUR TEAM
Producing over 5,000 precision made cables in 4-weeks AND designing and manufacturing 10,000 custom made hammaĀ® stainless steel swage forks in 6-weeks was a remarkable achievement!Ā Ā
Thanks to our team for manufacturing the large order, and producing the high volume of data sheets, QA forms and cable tags to ensure that all cables were correctly referenced and meticulously delivered in line with requirements. Thanks also to our supplier hammaĀ® for manufacturing the 10,000 swage fork fittings in record time!Ā
