Award-Winning Suspension Bridge Featuring Locked COil Cables and Flexi-Mesh

Congratulations to Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects on receiving the 2024 National Architecture Award for Small Project Architecture for the remarkable Dwaarlindjirraap Suspension Bridge in Western Australia.
THE PROJECT
The Dwaarlindjirraap Suspension Bridge is a 105-metre-long structure crossing the Murray River within the Lane Poole Reserve. It forms the central element of the Dwellingup Adventure Trails experience – a dedicated single-track mountain bike trail and upgrade of the existing Munda Biddi Trail.
OUR CONTRIBUTION
Our team collaborated on this award-winning project, working alongside Bocol Constructions to supply:
- 16mm–65mm Full Locked Coil Teufelberger-Redaelli cables which were integral to the bridge’s structural integrity. We supplied 2 main cables which were 148m in length and 65mm in diameter. We also supplied 66 x 16mm diameter dropper cables (fitted with custom steel clamps) ranging in length from 3.9 m to 5.53 m, and 4 x 40mm diameter horizontal cables ranging in lengths from 33m to 64m – 40mm diameter.
- A bespoke Flexi-Mesh balustrade blending safety with aesthetic appeal to enhance the structural integrity of the bridge while maintaining a minimalist and sleek appearance. Featuring hammaX stainless steel cables constructed from 900 metres of hamma® 1X19 stainless steel wire (8mm and 10mm diameter) with hamma® Regatta fittings, as well as 300 square meters of 1.5mm 40×70 Flexi-Mesh.

Demonstrating the power of collaboration, our team had the privilege of working with:
- Partridge Engineers – meticulously designed and engineered the Flexi-Mesh balustrade.
- Teufelberger-Redaelli – engineered high-quality cables which were essential to the bridge’s strength and elegance.
